Margherita Sacca
About:
I am a counsellor practising in the UK, where I have worked in private practice since 2016. I work with individuals, couples and families, offering a warm, collaborative and non-judgemental space to explore personal, emotional and relational difficulties.
People come to counselling for many different reasons. Some may feel lost, uncertain or stuck in their lives and want to better understand themselves or explore what they want. Others may be experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety, or struggling with the effects of past trauma, disordered eating, self-harm, relationship difficulties or family problems.
My approach is integrative and informed by continuing professional development across different therapeutic approaches. I aim to tailor my work to each person, taking into account their individual circumstances, relationships and wider background. I have experience working with neurodiversity, survivors of abuse, difficult relationships, family dynamics, young people and carers.
Alongside counselling, I have experience delivering individual sessions and workshops on areas including psychoeducation, resilience, procrastination, wellbeing and career and vocational exploration.
Education and Professional Background:
I have a background in Psychology and was qualified and registered as a psychologist in Italy in 2007. This Italian professional qualification forms part of my professional background and experience; in the UK, I work in my role as a counsellor.
In the UK, I completed an MSc in Psychological Research Methods and have collaborated in academic research. I am also a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (MBPsS).
Before moving to the UK, I completed a Master’s Degree (Honours First Class) in Psychology in Italy and became professionally qualified and registered with the Ordine degli Psicologi della Toscana (Order of Psychologists of Tuscany), registration no. 5158.
My professional experience includes counselling, mental health support, mentoring, wellbeing work, teaching and academic research. In the UK, I have worked in mental health and wellbeing roles with charities, GP surgeries, universities and schools.
I have also worked in academic teaching and research in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, University of Stirling and Università degli Studi di Firenze, covering areas including Statistics for Psychology, Neuropsychology, Psycholinguistics, Psychodynamic Psychology, Psychology of Groups, Work and Organisational Psychology, and Social Psychology.
I continue to develop my professional knowledge through ongoing training and continuing professional development (CPD), with the aim of providing thoughtful and appropriately tailored support to each client.
My approach
My main therapeutic approach is relational-systemic and psychodynamic. I tailor my work to each client, taking into account their individual circumstances, needs and goals.

- Relational-Systemic approaches
- Psychodynamic approaches
- Group Dynamics
- Psychodrama
- Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
- Stress Control
I draw on these different perspectives and techniques where appropriate, while keeping the individual client and their therapeutic goals at the centre of the work.
